The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe’s leading facility for scientific research using neutrons. It hosts over 2000 guest scientists per year who carry out world-class research in a wide variety of scientific fields.
The Reactor Division, whose role is to produce the neutrons needed to supply the ILL’s scientific instruments, is responsible for operating all the technical installations associated with the reactor. It currently has a vacancy for a radioisotope production coordinator.
Your tasks
As part of the ILL’s Reactor Division, you will be responsible for coordinating activities linked to the production of radioisotopes, used principally to produce radiopharmaceutical products for cancer treatment. This is a cross-functional position spanning various ILL services. It is a position that will develop as a new dedicated hot cell is being implemented and the production capacity increases.
Your main duties will be to:
• Liaise with the users (international radiochemical laboratories) within the context of irradiating samples at the ILL
• Coordinate work by teams from various services
• Organise the preparation of irradiation shuttles
• Monitor orders and subcontracted operations regarding the irradiation shuttles
• Take an active role in the field with the technicians to condition the shipping containers
• Calculate the activation of samples and carry out mandatory periodic tests and inspections linked to the radioisotope production equipment
• Draft various documentation such as procedures, technical specifications, reports, etc.
• Take part in the project for a new hot cell.
Please note that all applicants are subject to administrative screening (background checks), and that medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required for this post.
Your profile
• You have a Level 7 qualification (Master’s degree or equivalent) in nuclear engineering, nuclear physics, radiochemistry, or similar.
• Experience in the production of radioisotopes or in nuclear installations is an advantage.
• You should be organised and methodical in your work and able to work independently, with good writing skills.
• You have a “hands-on” approach to your work and are used to working alone and in a team. You have a strong service-oriented attitude, and are able to take initiative while complying with regulatory requirements.
• You must have a sound knowledge of English and French. Some knowledge of German would be an advantage.
